Nowadays the restoration of Villa Caldogno (attributed to Andrea Palladio) and its annexes can be considered an experience of valorization and restitution of an important architectural monument not only within the province of Vicenza but in the entire region of Veneto.
Regarding the restoration of the annexes, the complex is composed of three separate buildings – the ex Casa Suore, the Barchessa with its portico and the Fabbricato with dovecote.
The project would have included also an additionalvolume for a multipurpose room, which was never realized.
We worked, therefore, on the potentiality of the historical artifact, we reconsidered its figurative and spatial qualities by eliminating the raising upper components in the volume of the Barchessa. We posed the roof – with the hip set back to the original quota of the existing central wall- on the entablature of the colonnaded portico, which remains free and open.
The new section presents a double-height space with a balcony which serves the second floor of the volume facing East. A continuous skylight window in the roof provides natural light for the entire surface of the central wall.
