A former agricultural land turned into a services area during the 2015 Milan Expo is seeking an identity following the guidelines of a masterplan structured along a linear park. It forms two sides: an east one proposing a somewhat urban agglomeration and a west one, object of the competition, which outlines an almost bi-dimensional volumetric composition. Our proposal defines a skyline for the area: not as mere visual device but as compositional strategy to organize the built volumes. A double row of linear buildings articulated in towers and plinths forms courtyards within which the park can penetrate.
On typological level both the towers and the plinths offer the maximum flexibility in terms of apartments sizes thanks to a technically optimized plan. Each apartment can enjoy a generous covered outdoor space which can be used in every whether condition. At level where plinths and towers meet an open plan hosts common facilities, that can be tailored on the needs of the dwellers, and offers access to large rooftops working as collective urban balconies.
